Biology
Mrs. Walker’s Biology Class
Biology is the study of life. This course will look at various aspects of biology. They include using lab equipment and safe lab practices, cell structure and function, genetics, history of life on Earth, ecology, plants, animals, and human body systems.
Classroom Expectations: In order for all students to get the most from their learning experience, I expect everyone to follow my class guidelines and the rules and procedures outlined in the student handbook, including but not limited to:
1. Respect the rights of others and their property.
2. Be in the classroom and ready to work when the tardy bell rings.
3. Remain quiet while others are working.
4. Do not leave room without permission
5. Bring all materials to class.
6. Remain in class during instruction time.
Failure to follow these rules will result in a student/teacher conference, an email or phone call home, or referral to the office.
Materials: composition book, pocketed folder, black or blue pen/pencil, loose-leaf notebook paper, colored map pencils
Textbooks: Students will be provided textbooks for class use. If you would like to be assigned a textbook to keep at home, you will need to check one out in the office. Online textbooks will be avilable also. To access the text, go to my class blog, on the right side under Blogroll, scroll over the link. You will find the username and password.
Project: Projects assigned at least two weeks in advance will NOT be accepted late.
Homework: Most work will be completed in class, however, students are expected to study for tests and complete any long-term assignments at home if necessary.
Absences: If a student misses class for any reason, it is that student’s responsibility to check the board and get the work they missed or in the case of a missed test, ask to schedule a time to make-up that test not during class time. (Before school any day in the designated testing room or after school by appointment. I am usually here after school but things do come up that I have to leave after school for) . Students have one day for each day missed plus one additional day to turn in absent work or schedule tests as outlined in the student handbook.
Late Work: Students may turn in work up to 3 days after the due date for a maximum grade of 70.
Failed daily assignments: Students may improve a failed daily assignment by correcting or redoing it for a maximum grade of 70. Students have five (5) school days to redo/make-up a failing assignment once the paper is returned to the student.
Failed Test: Tests with a grade < 70 can be corrected for up to a 70. Tests with a grade >70 can be corrected for ½ points back. Test corrections will be the responsibility of the student. Once tests are returned to the student, it will be their responsibility to obtain a test correction sheet, complete it within 5 days, and return it to the turn-in tray to be graded. To receive credit, the test correction sheet (which can also be found on my blog on the Biology Class Tools page) must be completely and correctly filled out and returned with the test.
Grading: Daily work/quizzes/labs 50%
Test/Projects/Major assignments 50%
