That's Life!

This week we are studying Classification and the 6 Kingdoms.
Monday we started with a fun activity of classifying a “new species” of organisms. We also practiced our classification skills by classifying sharks. Tuesday we will be comparing and contrasting the characteristics of the 6 kingdoms.
I will be at the technology conference on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The students will be practicing the skills they learned by doing a Survey of the Kingdoms lab on Wednesday and a Classifying Bacteria Activity on Thursday. Friday students will review some concepts from 1st semester as we prepare for the EOC Exam that will be given on May 10.

We have started the DNA/RNA unit. This week we looked at a model of DNA and talked about how the base pairs match up for replication. Today we will look at the notes for the chapter before we start the next phase which is RNA and transcription and translation.
Specifically, Monday will be in the computer lab doing a Weblesson
Tuesday – Smartboard activity – Transcription and translation
Wednesday- Protein Creation activity
Thursday – Genetic Technology Video
Friday – Gel Electrophoresis Virtual Lab
Our test over this unit will be Tuesday.

This week will be a busy week as we are wrapping up our photosynthesis / cellular respiration unit and the VOKI biologist is due Wednesday.
Monday – P/CR equation lesson (Video to be posted)
Tuesday – Quiz – Complete Photosynthesis Lab
Wednesday - VOKI due at midnight, “The Chloroplast and Mitochondria”
Thursday – Rockets Reaching Out/ Unit Notes
Friday – Photosynthesis Test

We are doing this lesson in class today. I am posting the video so that students who missed class can watch and complete this activity or for those who might want to watch again. Click on Find A List  On the advanced search, type in Dawn Walker. From there it will take you to a list of teachers. Then click on my name next to Robinson High School. In the Vocabulary and spelling list, click on GAMES next to Chapter 4 Vocabulary. You can choose which vocabulary games to play from the Free Activities.
